Black Lily – The Plague (streaming)
This is the first collaboration by Betty Pietersz and Peter Wenk. Although their acquaintance and friendship started more than two decades ago, at the Conservatorium of Rotterdam, their creative ideas and talents have only recently come together: In New York, musicians speak already of the “before-time” and the “after-time”. In the “before-time” Betty and Peter where loosely acquainted, each living their lives with occasional gigs together here and there. Then came corona (the plague) and they found themselves both unemployed and with too much time on their hands. That was the birth of their songwriting project, so this album is a true child of the corona crisis. Peter Wenk produced and arranged a plurality of CD's include Johan Nilson "Ear Sick" Manuel Candinho his CD "Alma y son", and Amin Daci "Numedia". He was also the bandleader and pianist of the band Mezcolanza, with who he published a cd at the O.A.P. Records Studios. Betty Pietersz musical singing career started in the Salsa band of her father, called 'Unisono Dos'. In the same period she started her musical education at the Rotterdam Conservatory, where the world literally 'opened' and laid at her feet. Her singing lessons followed by teachers from both the Jazz and the World Music department such as; Denise Jannah, Joseé Koning, Miguel Montenegro and Sonia Genu.
Raisin Bread – EP (streaming)
What happens when old college mates get together after a long hiatus? You get Raisin Bread. Drummer/producer Barry Olthof, bassist Andy Valkenburg, and pianist/composer Menno de Boer reminisce about the old days but refuse to get stuck in the past. Over the years, their respective musical paths diverted, as did their lives; but when they get together it is immediately obvious that their bond forged long ago has not waned over time. On their debut recording, the band keeps it simple and straight ahead. Whether it’s the delicious swing of the self-titled introduction, the gentle and warm aural caress of “In My Dreams”, or the relentless pursuit of “West Straight Ahead”, the trio is all about pocket and interaction. So why the name Raisin Bread? “It refers to a Dutch saying about old friends; and that just felt appropriate for what we were doing.” says pianist Menno. Indeed, Raisin Bread is about old friends finding new ways to connect, and rediscovering their common ground. All compositions written by Menno de Boer.
Brian’s Garage Band – EP (streaming)
Brian's Garage Band is a four-man group that formed in 2018 and are based in The Hague. They are influenced by names that go from the great B.B King to the amazing Frank Zappa. Their music could best be described as punk with a raw blues and garage rock edge. With their deafening solo's, thumping basslines, rolling drums and bluesy vocals they always manage to get a crowd moving. They are following the footsteps of the greats artists that came out of The Hague! The band consists of Giampiero Girolamo, a multi-instrumentalist music monk from Italy. Then there is Anthony Villerius, a drummer with Colombian roots. The guitarist goes by the name of Julian Schaffer, who is self-taught and from the Hague originally. Last but not least there is their raw voiced singer Richie Elia, also from The Hague originally.
