Het klikt, het klinkt subtiel, gedurfd en alsof ze al jaren samen het podium delen: Teddy Charles (1928) en het trio van de jonge, uit Finland afkomstige, pianist Walter Wolff. Charles maakte zo’n beetje alles mee in de jazz. Van swing, naar bop, naar ‘third stream’, samenspelend met Charles Mingus. Hij fraseert zijn soli op een moeilijk te vergelijken, orginele, nooit clichématige manier. Alsof hij nog steeds aan het ontdekken is. Pianist Wolff geeft prachtig, altijd smaakvol tegenwerk en maakt waar dat hij als grote belofte geldt op jazzpiano (Leidse Jazz Award). De Italiaanse bassist Francesco Angiuli en de Deense drummer Andreas Fryland zijn de ideale partners in dit inspirerende avontuur. Het duet van Wolff en Charles in Bob Haggarts ‘What’s new’ is een stukje pure schoonheid. Net zoals alle acht tracks geholpen door de hoge opnamekwaliteit van dit ‘LIVE’-concert in het Amsterdamse BIM-huis."}
